We visited an organic farm yesterday and got so tired by the time we were back that I could not post yesterday’s challenge. We had strawberry milk shake yesterday and with the bananas we got from the farm we did banana pancakes today morning for breakfast. The first strawberries we used in our kitchen was for Sarah’s milk shake. And she loved it. I have seen her having the packaged strawberry drink. But I was not quite sure if she would like the less sweetened home made version but she loved it. It is a very easy recipe but what I want to tell you people is that you don’t need to wait for the most extra ordinary recipe to give your kid something special.
There are quite some stuff that is available out there for each season that can go into your kiddos diet. We are so used to packet drinks, we take it for granted that this is the only option out there. Getting our kids hooked onto home made stuff that is healthy, free of preservatives, is quite important at this young age. And I have not seen Sarah reject milk shakes in any form. So try making some strawberry milk shake while the season lasts.
Ingredients for Strawberry Milk Shake
Strawberries- 10 small ones
Sugar- 1/2 cup
Milk- 200 ml
Directions
Hull the strawberries after washing them and slice them into halves. In a mixer blend all the ingredients till the strawberries have blended thoroughly. Strain through a sieve so that the seeds don’t get added to the milk shake. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
We got a bunch of ripe bananas from the farm and so our breakfast today was banana pancakes with honey. This recipe has no sugar added so the sweetness depends on the bananas and the honey added. Sarah had it without honey. She does not seem to be fan of sweet stuff. Pancaking stuff has always been a easy hack to feeding Sarah, and I guess by the time we are done with this series in a year we would have tried every pancake possible. I have discovered a 2 ingredient banana pancake recipe as well which is gluten free. But for now try this recipe its easy too.
Ingredients for Banana Pancakes
Whole wheat flour – 1 cup
All purpose flour- 1/2 cup
Milk- 1 cup
Baking soda- 1 tsp
All spices- 1 tsp( a pinch of nutmeg powder, with a pinch of cinnamon and clove powder)
Butter- 2 tsp melted
Banana- 1
Eggs- 2
Directions
Mash the banana thoroughly and add the whisked eggs and milk. Now fold in the flours and baking soda along with all spices. Melt the butter and set aside in a bowl with a brush. Heat the girdle, grease with some butter and pour in a ladleful of batter. Spread it like a medium sized thick pancake and cook over medium flame. Flip over to the other side when done and cook both sides till they brown. Serve with some butter or honey and chopped bananas.
Hope you loved both these recipe, they make an awesome breakfast combo as well and since this is the first meal of the day, your kiddo will be definitely hungry and will polish off these in no time.
